Best Companies: A Brief History

Founded by CEO Jonathan Austin, Best Companies accreditation is synonymous with the gold standard of workplace engagement and employee satisfaction. Following a rush of inspiration at a conference in the year 2000, Austin sought to create a methodology for analysing and measuring the culture and attitudes inside a workplace. His hope was to determine the elements which contribute to healthy, happy work environments – a scale by which excellence could be measured.

In partnership with University of Plymouth academics, Austin did just that. The inaugural Best Companies to Work For list was published in 2001. Since then, Best Companies has continuously evolved, developing its precision data reporting capabilities. Today, not only do they measure workplace engagement in depth, but they help companies of all sizes to enhance it, celebrating and sharing best organisational practices, so everyone can be happier at work.

A happy, healthy workplace
